Description: Surprise. Mother Irene (Gudrun Ritter) has a wonderful idea: a beach holiday in Bulgaria for the whole family, including daughter Ines’ (Odette Bereska) new boyfriend Jonas (René Rudolph), alias “Johnny”. But at first the response from the others is muted, and some convincing is needed. The young couple actually had their own travel plans. When everyone is finally sitting together on the train to Nessebar, “Johnny” is very frightened by the engagement rings on offer and is the first to flee. Only Ines manages the planned train journey. For the others, many roads lead to Nessebar – and they are not the worst. “And next year at Lake Balaton” is an entertaining and briskly directed summer film about young love, wanderlust and former limits of travel. “A film against stuffiness and mustiness and therefore a little more than just a friendly holiday film,” judged West German film critic Heinz Kersten
