Description: Giuseppe Cicerchia, separated from his wife Iolanda and known to the police for a series of small criminal records related to the tricks he uses to earn a living, has long since settled in the mountain village of Busolone, where, relying on the naivety of the villagers, he acts as a magician-intermediary with a supposed Saint Pasquale, in whose name he prescribes love recipes to women who are dissatisfied. His duties also include personally satisfying women. His enemies include the rival wizard from Bagnacavallo, a representative of Saint Constantine I, who ends up smashed to the ground during a levitating demonstration from the bell tower; and Don Gervasio, the village parish priest. The local priest, using an actor brother-in-law and his troupe of bacchantes, will stage pranks that force the Cicerchia to perform an act of public penance and go into exile with his mute servant and a supposedly possessed woman.
